I would have never thought of buying any Silk from Ho Chi Minh CIty,but  this time i  went with my love one to Vietnam.She told me , we might be able to grab some Vietnam Silk at a bargain price .Well i have never wear any silk made clothes before,this sounds new to me  why not give it a try, grab some Vietnam Silk and turn it into an office Attire, sounds cool to me. So we roam  through Google to search for information  on where to buy Vietnam Silk in Ho Chi Minh City. We found little to non relevant information wrote about buying Silk in Ho Chi Minh City, only some recommendation on tripadviser . That is far too less info that we can gather, through our adventure to hunt for Vietnam Silk.

Also known as Cho Tan Binh Market .Located 30 Minutes drive from our Hotel  at District 1 Ho Chi Minh City.

This Market is cater specially  for the Local people, its a whole sale market place selling Fabric, Clothes, Jeans , any kind of attire you can name it.As a tourist you might find hardship to navigate your way through the Market, as majority of the Locals or dealers  there do not speak English.The Traffic and noise over there will get your head Spinning, as the locals are bargaining , roaming around carrying sack of clothes and silk heavily loaded on their Motor bike.

Blundering my way there, I observed that they Sold Clothes , fabric based on Kilos.Pieces of Clothes ,fabric etc  are weigh . When Deals go through the goods will be loaded on their bike to be transported away.

How we go to Tan Binh Market from our Hotel located at District 1 Ho Chi Minh City

For this Trip we Stay in Roseland Inn Hotel Located at District 1 Ho Chi Minh City. If you are staying in District 1 Ho Chi Minh City .You can take the transport listed below. It will cost you around 60,000 Dong  to 80,000 ( USD$2.6 to $3.5) Dong to get there.

Tan Binh Market, is it worth Paying a visit there

The Answer is Yes, me and my girl friend actually got some great deals over here. But to tell you frankly , is not an easy task to find a good deal at Tan Binh Market. As i have mentioned above the Locals  do not speak English , some do speak Mandarin , French or Japanese.But it all depends on your luck. You must have a lot of patient looking around and bargain the price that you want. As this is a Whole Sale Market, the Dealers Sell in Bulk , majority of the Dealers will ignore you due to the reason listed below.

• You will need to Purchase a Certain quantity Amount
• They don’t speak English
• Its a Market for the Local Dealers

 Inside Tan Binh Market Mall

When we enter the building,the area is bustling with activities. Basically Inside Tan Binh Mall there are no Silk Fabric Dealer. We explore the whole building for about  30 minute. In conclusion the Inside of Tan Binh Market Building is a Wholesale Market for the Materials listed below

• Man and Women Clothing
• Underwear man or woman
• Winter Clothes
• Sewing Materials
• Beads and Accesories

 

Outside  Tan Binh Market Mall

As we walk our way out of the Tan Binh Market building,finally we have found what we want.Silk Fabric. Our buying silk in Ho chi Minh City research finally have some glimmer of light.If my math is correct there are approximately 15 Store selling Silk or cotton fabric outside the  whole stretch of Tan Binh Market.

We then walk store by store to check out the goods and price. Half of the Dealers ignore us, one third of them don’t understands exactly what we are trying to tell them, the remaining told us you need to buy at least 10 meters and above.

What is the Price we managed to get from  this Stretch of Fabric Store

Well Luckily , one of the dealer entertains us and agree to sell us 6m of Silk Fabric for a price of  67,000 Dong (USD$3) per meter.But on average if you just purchase only 2 meter or 3 meter of Silk Fabric ,  for this amount Dealers might sell you 120,000 to 150,000 Dong  (USD$5 to 6)per meter , and this do not even guarantee  that they are willing to sell you either.

A Cross the Street of  Tan Binh Market Mall

We got our deal and bought the Silk fabric, joyfully we cross the Streets, and after crossing the street we saw there are lots of Fabric shop selling Silk and cotton. As usual we walk in one by one to check out the price and goods.

To our disappointment, we didn’t get any bargain or deals. 80% of the Dealers ignore us,and the remaining 20% , only agree to sell us silk Fabric for the price ranging from 60,000 Dong to 80,000 Dong (USD $ 3 to 3.5), condition is that we need to purchase at least 10 meters and above for one fabric design.As we do not have that needs , we move on to the Back Alley away from the main road.

This is where me and my girl friend found the best deal in the whole area.As we walk our way visiting shop one by one through the back alley . We found  this silk shop which offer us a very bargain price , 49,000 dong (USD$ 2)per meter of Silk Fabric. We Happily Bought  2 meter . Buying Silk in Ho chi Minh City does need a lot of hard work and leg strength. We Spent around 30 minute walking , searching shops at the back alley , finally we found this one which offer the best deals. Due to the Weather  was going to rain at that time, and we are in a hurry , we rush off after we purchase the goods and did not have the opportunity to take picture of the Shop or wrote down its name.

Tan Dinh Market

After we finished our business  at Tan Binh market we proceed our buying silk in Ho Chi Minh City adventure at Tan Dinh Market.We book a Grab Car and it cost us around 60,000 Dong ( USD$2.6) to reach there from Bin Tanh Market.

Tan Dinh Market also known as Cho Tan Dinh , its location is nearer to our Hotel, if compare to Tan Binh Market. By the time we reach Tan Dinh Market it just Past noon after Lunch time.
